E_Mall Ltd

As a small survey has shown, the Emol brand is little known not only to ordinary mobile phone users, but also to communication specialists. Nevertheless, to all appearances, this company has entered the Russian market in earnest and for a long time. That is why it was especially interesting for us to test the device with which the company starts its activities in Russia.
Model EL908, traditionally for Asian companies, is made in a clamshell form factor. To reduce the cost, the phone lacks an external screen. Instead, on the front panel, you can see the graceful bend of the LED, which, as it turned out later, is capable of glowing in seven different colors. There is also the name of the model and the inscription Slim in the form of a graceful stroke, apparently designed to give the device some additional charm.
The phone is very thin - its thickness does not exceed 20 mm. Thus, today EL908 is one of the thinnest folding mobile phones on the market. On the rear panel, attention is drawn to the speaker protruding from the body - especially for playing polyphonic melodies. This solution is not very original, but practical.
On the bottom of the device there is a charger connector, on the top - a headphone jack. Both slots are closed with rubber caps, which are prudently attached to the case. On the left side of the device are the volume keys and one more button, the original purpose of which we will describe below.
The battery of the device is also part of the back of the mobile phone. This model uses a 600 mAh Li-Ion battery. The passport indicators of autonomy are not too high - 120 hours of standby time and 4 hours of talk time. To the manufacturer's credit, he did not overestimate the characteristics of the model - the device honestly worked for about 3 days with an average call duration of 15-20 minutes a day.
The slot for the SIM card is similar to the solutions used by other manufacturers. It should be noted that in the new model there was no backlash of any part - be it a flip cover or a battery. Since for some Asian devices the free movement of components in new devices is far from uncommon, one more plus can be added to the EL908 asset.
We open the mobile phone. A fairly large display is located on the hinged cover, above it is a speaker with a very original design that I have not seen before.
The keyboard is divided into two parts. The first is a block of function keys, it consists of arrow buttons, soft keys. Here are the answer and end call buttons and the reset key. By the way, in standby mode, pressing C has surprising consequences. The screen saver starts to change on the display. I don’t know what made the developers assign the function of quick “wallpaper” change to this key, but, of course, this solution is unique.
The "five-position" key for navigating through the menu seems to have caused some criticism. It seems to be - because in fact it is a four-position. And in the middle, instead of the confirmation key, there is a blue decorative plastic insert. This, of course, is stupid and inconvenient - you constantly want to press this plastic, but there is no effect. Confirmation of the action is made by the left soft-key.
The second block is, in fact, the number keys. They are quite convenient, but, for example, it is not possible to dial a number very quickly - you often miss the mark, after all, the distance between the buttons is not enough. The phone is very thin - its thickness does not exceed 20 mm. Thus, today EL908 is one of the thinnest folding mobile phones on the market. On the rear panel, attention is drawn to the speaker protruding from the body - especially for  E_Mall Ltd playing polyphonic melodies. This solution is not very original, but practical.
The phone is traditionally switched on by holding the call hang-up button. The display of the device lights up, plays a very colorful splash screen (of course: 65,000 colors are not a joke), and goes into standby mode. The operator's name and date are displayed on the screen here, the upper line is reserved for service icons (4-digit network and battery indicator), the lower one is for the clock and signatures for the function keys. The left soft key opens the general phone menu, and the right one - access to games. You cannot change the settings. The decision is very controversial - the mobile phone does not support Java, and the pre-installed games are, to put it mildly, boring. To be more precise, they are terrible.
I would like to say a few words about one more small but unique feature of the device under test. In standby mode, pressing the isolated button on the left side of the device removes or returns to the display the date and the name of the operator. If you want - see what day it is, but if you want - free up space and enjoy the picture on the display without interference.
There are six items in the main menu, each of which is depicted as a small icon. The animation is present, but extremely simple, and the drawings do not shine with originality. The developers have provided for the use of quick navigation through the items. True, the sections themselves (at least the main ones) are not numbered, and their number has to be calculated empirically.
So, let's go through the menu, fortunately, it won't take much time.
Messages. EL908 has 30 cells for storing SMS - both incoming and outgoing. There is a Drafts folder, where messages written but not sent are placed. Sent messages are automatically copied to the Outbox folder. With each saving, the phone prudently asks where to store the SMS - in the memory of the SIM card or the device.
