The word DJ (eng. DJ from disc jockey - disc jockey) has long and firmly established itself in the lexicons of almost all peoples of the world and sounds the same in all languages. A DJ is a person who publicly reproduces musical material recorded on sound media, in the process changing it and combining it into a continuous musical composition (mix). The first DJ who, back in the 1940s, began to use two players to create an uninterrupted set by music historians is considered to be Briton Jimmy Savile. For a long time, the profession of a DJ and a sound engineer had practically no differences; DJs used ordinary mixing consoles and turntables for their work. It wasn't until the early 1970s that a separate DJ equipment industry began to take shape. In 1971, the first mass-produced Bozak CMA 10-2DL DJ mixer entered the market, and in 1974, Technics released its legendary SL-1200 turntable.

A real breakthrough in the 90s of the 20th century in the DJ equipment market was mixing consoles for DJs, as well as DJ CD players developed by the DJ department of Pioneer Corporation. The development of computer technology could not but affect the industry of DJ equipment. In 2002, N2IT released an innovative product - Final Scratch. This is DVS (Digital Vinyl System) or Timecode system, which later became the basis of digital DJing. With this system, a DJ could play digital audio recordings from a laptop through special DJ sound cards, manipulating tracks using vinyl records or timecode CDs. It was originally designed to combine the versatility and possibilities of digital reproduction with the tactile control of a vinyl record. Subsequently, the use of a laptop for DJing became a kind of industry standard.
The extensive features and ease of use of DJ software such as PCDJ, Serato Scratch Live, Native Instrument Traktor, Pioneer Rekordbox have led to the emergence of devices such as DJ MIDI controllers on the DJ equipment market. These devices allow you to control the playback of digital recordings from your laptop and relieve you of the need to manipulate the mouse - all controls are tangible. One of the main advantages of using such DJ equipment is that, along with playback control, you have access to all the functionality of the Dj software - effects, loops, marks, samples. What's more, you can connect more than one MIDI controller to your laptop and control, for example, an effects section or a sampler from a separate dedicated controller. With the spread of this DJ equipment, the line between DJ and musician has become blurred. The variety and versatility of such equipment for both DJs and musicians, as well as the widest possibilities of computer programs, have opened up an almost unlimited space for the creativity of electronic musicians, DJs, and bands.
